Shipwrecks tell about the history of seafaring

Are you fascinated by old sailing ships and sunken treasures? What about all of the ships sunk throughout history by storms and wars? The northern Baltic Sea has been called a treasure trove of wrecks and the world's largest underwater museum. And not without good reason, because thousands of wrecks of ships of different ages, types, and degrees of preservation are known from Finnish sea areas, while new sites are constantly being found.

Finland's earliest marine wreck finds are the medieval wrecks of wooden ships, while more modern wrecks include the metal-hulled vessels from the World Wars. Together with the underwater environment surrounding these wrecks, they form an underwater cultural landscape. Here, we present some easily accessible wreck sites!

All of the wrecks in Finland can be found from the Cultural Environment service window. Go to the cultural environment service window.
